Harvard Epidemiologist: 40-70% of the People in the World Will be Infected With Novel Coronavirus This Year.

Harvard epidemiologist, Marc Lipsitch, predicted that this year, 40 to 70 percent of people around the world will be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

If the disease continues to be as severe as it is now, “cold and flu season” would become “cold and flu and COVID-19 season.”

Even with aggressive, well-funded medical treatment, the novel coronavirus fatality rate is now at 2%.  The anticipated death and economic toll is staggering, particularly in African, Middle Eastern and Latin American nations with weaker health systems.

According to the World Health Organization, as of Feb. 23, 2020, there were 35 confirmed cases in the U.S.

But Lipsitch’s “very, very rough” estimate, banking on “multiple assumptions piled on top of each other”, was that 100 or 200 people in the U.S. are now infected and that’s more than enough to seed the disease widely throughout America.
