On Monday, the New York state infection toll rose by 37, to 142 patients. 106 of those live in the New York city of New Rochelle.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that Rick Cotton, the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is among those infected by the new coronavirus, COVID-19 and has been quarantined. Rick Cotton is the top New York state official charged with ensuring traveler safety.
The Port Authority is responsible for oversight of much of the region’s transportation infrastructure. Cotton has been overseeing the arrival of overseas flights coming into airports in the area, including John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The governor didn’t say how Cotton may have contracted the potentially deadly bug but noted that the executive director “has been at the airports, obviously, when many people were coming back with the virus.”
